Ottumwa Schools Mourns the Loss of Beloved Teacher Shanee Aljets

The Ottumwa Community School District is heartbroken to share the loss of Mrs. Shanee Aljets, a beloved teacher who dedicated 30 years of service to Ottumwa Schools. Mrs. Aljets, who most recently taught kindergarten at Eisenhower Elementary School, lost her battle with cancer.

For three decades, Mrs. Aljets made a difference in the lives of students, families, and colleagues throughout our district. Her loss is deeply felt by the Eisenhower Elementary School community and by the many students and staff members whose lives she touched throughout her career.

A loss like this is felt far beyond the classroom. Our school community is grieving alongside Mrs. Aljets’ family and loved ones, as well as the students, families, friends, and colleagues who knew and cared for her.

Counselors and support personnel are available to help students and staff navigate this loss. We encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out for support and to give themselves and others grace as we come together to remember Mrs. Aljets and support one another.

Families who need assistance may contact the Ottumwa Schools District Office at 641-684-6597 or our Family Service Coordinator, Megan Logan, at megan.logan@ottumwaschools.com. Additional confidential support is available through Your Life Iowa by phone, text, or chat at yourlifeiowa.org.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Aljets’ family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss. We are grateful for her 30 years of dedication to our students and our Bulldog family. We ask our school community to care for one another, lead with kindness, and support those who may be hurting.

With Sympathy and Support,
Bradley McCloskey
